News - Unite! Doctoral Network in Energy Storage
Advancing Hydrogen Research and Communication Skills
From 8–10 October 2025, the Unite!Energy 2nd Annual Conference took place at Aalto University during the Unite! Dialogue in Espoo, Finland. The event brought together most of the network of doctoral candidates, supervisors and partners of the MSCA Doctoral Network UNITE!Energy, reinforcing interdisciplinary exchange and cross-institutional collaboration across the alliance.
The three-day programme was designed to strengthen both scientific expertise and communication skills of the DCs. Highlights included a site visit to ABB’s research facilities in Helsinki, virtual poster presentations by 16 doctoral candidates, , keynote lectures on hydrogen, renewable energy and sustainability, and an interactive science game exploring the current state of hydrogen technologies.
A Workshop focused on science communication, with sessions on creating compelling visual materials and effective social media outreach. These trainings provided doctoral candidates with practical tools to better communicate their research to both academic and non-academic audiences.

Research themes covered at the conference ranged from hydrogen production and storage, fuel cells and energy systems to AI-based optimisation, battery technologies, safety and long-term sustainability.
